Beschrijving keerzijde Two finely engraved whales depicted in profile, swimming horizontally across the central field, one above the other; the upper whale faces left and the lower whale faces right, both rendered with naturalistic detail including pectoral fins and ventral grooves consistent with baleen whale anatomy. The plain field provides a clean background to the wildlife motif. The denomination legend ONE CROWN is inscribed along the lower periphery in raised letters. The design is enclosed by a beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic, is the most remote permanently inhabited archipelago on earth — the nearest landmass is Saint Helena, roughly 2,400 kilometers away. The island's entire population was evacuated to England in 1961 following a volcanic eruption, then returned two years later despite British government preference that they stay. Coins issued for Tristan carry collector rather than transactional purpose; the island economy has never meaningfully relied on physical coinage given the near-total absence of commerce infrastructure.
