| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl drop earring, with a pearl necklace at the truncation. The portrait is rendered in fine relief with carefully detailed hair and drapery. The legend 'ELIZABETH II 2016' arcs along the upper left periphery and 'ASCENSION ISLAND' along the upper right, all in raised Latin lettering. The Pobjoy Mint initials 'PM' appear as a small mark near the lower left of the bust truncation. The entire design is finished in a distinctive red coloring applied to the copper-nickel planchet. |
