Obverse description Equestrian effigy of King Charles I facing left, the king depicted in full armour and crowned, bearing an upright sword over his right shoulder, mounted on a caparisoned horse in a walking pose. A decorated inner beaded circle frames the central device. The Latin legend surrounding the effigy reads CAROLVS D G MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB REX, identifying the king as ruler of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, with a small crown mintmark visible above at the start of the legend.
