1 Crown - Albert and Isabella

Albert VII, Archduke of Austria, and his wife Isabella Clara Eugenia governed the Spanish Netherlands as sovereign rulers under a unique arrangement brokered by Philip II — the territories were granted as a dowry, with the condition that they would revert to Spain should the couple die without heirs. They did. Albert died in 1621 without surviving issue, and the southern provinces returned to direct Spanish rule immediately after.

The joint-reign coinage of the Archdukes is consequently confined to a narrow production window, and Flemish gold from this period is scarce in any grade.
