| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a crowned coat of arms of the Marquisate of Saluzzo, surmounted by a marquis's crown with cross finial, flanked by the initials F and M in large Gothic characters. The shield displays the heraldic arms of the Del Vasto family, rendered in hammered relief with considerable detail despite the irregular flan. A surrounding circular Latin legend reads FRANCISCVS : M : SALVTIARVM : F : M, identifying Francesco I as Marquis of Saluzzo. The overall composition is typical of early sixteenth-century Italian seigneurial coinage, combining dynastic heraldry with abbreviated titulature. |
