Obverse description Central device depicts the Nicaraguan coat of arms: an equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanic peaks rising from the sea, surmounted by a radiant sun and a Phrygian cap above a rainbow, all rendered in fine relief. A beaded border frames the coin, with the circular legend reading REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA in the upper field and AMERICA CENTRAL in the lower field, separated by small pellets at each side.
