Below the block, in the exergue separated by a horizontal line, the date of the Bavarian Constitution is given in Roman numerals: XXVI MAII MDCCCXVIII (26 May 1818). The surrounding legend, adapted from Virgil's Fourth Eclogue, reads MAGNUS AB INTEGRO SAECLORUM NASCITUR ORDO, all within a finely toothed milled border. |
