Reverse description Central device depicts a large stone block or chest, rendered in three-quarter perspective with light hatching to suggest volume, inscribed on its face CHARTA MAGNA BAVARIAE, resting upon a diagonally hatched floor decorated with the Bavarian lozenge pattern. Below the block, in the exergue separated by a horizontal line, the date of the Bavarian Constitution is given in Roman numerals: XXVI MAII MDCCCXVIII (26 May 1818). The surrounding legend, adapted from Virgil's Fourth Eclogue, reads MAGNUS AB INTEGRO SAECLORUM NASCITUR ORDO, all within a finely toothed milled border.
