Obverse description Blue on yellow underprint, printed in xylography as a provisional reuse of the original Thesouro Nacional plate (P#93). A vignette on the left presents a seated female allegory of Commerce holding a sword. Print, series, and order numbers appear in red, with a red overprint inscription on the left panel authorizing payment through Banco do Brasil in accordance with Law No. 4635-A of 8 January 1923.
Obverse lettering 1 CONTO 1 CONTO REPÚBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL NO THESOURO NACIONAL SE PAGARÁ AO PORTADOR DESTA A QUANTIA DE UM CONTO DE RÉIS VALOR RECEBIDO 1 CONTO 1 CONTO No Banco do Brasil, e de acordo com a lei nº 4635-A de 8 de Janeiro de 1923, se pagará ao portador desta a quantia de um conto de réis
(Translation: One Thousand One Thousand Republic of the United States of Brazil At the National Treasury the bearer will be paid the amount of One Conto de Réis Value Received One Thousand One Thousand At the Bank of Brazil, and in accordance with Law No. 4635-A of 8 January 1923, the bearer will be paid the amount of one conto de réis)
Reverse description Printed in brown on a cream-toned background, the reverse is executed in woodcut technique with a Marajoara-style geometric underprint throughout. A large central oval vignette carries the bold numeral "1" above the denomination legend "CONTO DE REIS", flanked by two smaller oval counter-vignettes at left and right. The country name appears in a cartouche at the top and the full denomination in text is inscribed along the lower border. On this specimen example, diagonal red "SPECIMEN" overprints appear twice across the face.
