Obverse description A vignette of Christopher Columbus appears at the left, while the national coat of arms flanked by flags occupies the right portion of the note. The face carries extensive letterpress text in Spanish certifying the silver deposit backing, with the denomination ONE COLON stated both in numeral and word form. The note was printed by the American Bank Note Company of New York.

Reverse description The otherwise plain reverse bears a single circular hand-applied ink stamp at center, containing the Costa Rican coat of arms surrounded by the legend of the Secretaría de Hacienda y Comercio. The remainder of the reverse is uniface, left unprinted as issued.
