The P#100 series was produced by De La Rue during a period of relative monetary stability in El Salvador, when the colón had maintained its fixed peg to the US dollar at 2.50 colones since 1934 — a rate that would hold, remarkably, until 2001. That peg made exchange-rate crises a non-issue but created persistent pressure on reserves, which partly explains why the Central Reserve Bank kept its lower denominations in tight circulation and reprinted them on short cycles.
De La Rue's watermarked cotton substrate for this series is consistent with their mid-century Latin American contracts, where security spec was kept modest for workhorse denominations unlikely to attract serious forgery.
