Banco Salvadoreño was one of several private Salvadoran banks granted note-issuing privileges before the government moved to consolidate currency under the Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador, established in 1934. This note predates that nationalization by a decade and represents the tail end of an era when competing commercial banks each maintained their own circulating paper — a system that created persistent public confusion over relative note values and acceptance.
The American Bank Note Company's engraved work for Central American clients during this period is generally of high technical quality. Watermarking on ABNC-produced notes for smaller regional issuers was sometimes inconsistently applied across print runs, and collectors should verify watermark presence before attribution.
