| Obverse lettering | ☩ F · H · DE LOVBENS CARD · M · H · H (Translation: Fra` Hugues Loubenx, Cardinal, Master of the Hospitallers of Jerusalem) |
| Reverse description | A large plain cross of the Order of St. John, quartering the field and extending to the inner circle, with a small pellet at the center. The cross is enclosed within a beaded or pellet inner circle, with the surrounding legend reading ☩ S · IO · B · ORA · PRO NOBIS, invoking Saint John the Baptist as patron intercessor. The lettering is separated by pellets and a cross pattée at the beginning of the legend. The hammered strike produces a somewhat uneven distribution of metal across the flan, typical of late 16th-century Maltese coinage. |
