Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Christian VIII with naturalistically rendered curling hair, executed in high relief in the neoclassical portrait style. The truncation of the neck is plain, with the engraver's initials FK incused below. The circular legend surrounds the portrait, interrupted by the king's name along the left arc and his royal titles along the upper and right arc. The field is smooth and unadorned, allowing the finely modelled bust to dominate the design.
