| 裏面の説明 | Central design features a small radiant triangle (an allusion to the Holy Trinity or Masonic symbolism) at the center of the field, surrounded by three large crowned interlaced double royal cyphers (C7C) arranged at each vertex of an equilateral triangular frame, all enclosed within an ornate border. The royal motto is inscribed as a circular legend around the rim. The composition was designed by Johannes Wiedewelt in a refined neoclassical manner. |

The Christian d'Or was introduced under Christian VII, though the king himself was in the grip of severe mental illness by the time this series was struck — power rested effectively with his physician Johann Friedrich Struensee, who had become the queen's lover and de facto ruler of Denmark before his arrest and public execution in 1772. Coins bearing the king's name were being produced while the government that authorized them had already collapsed in a coup.
The "d'Or" designation follows the French monetary naming convention fashionable across European courts in the 18th century.
