Fleet Officers' Club scrip from the Admiralty Islands fills a narrow but genuinely interesting gap in Pacific theater monetary history. After the Allied capture of Manus Island in early 1944, the U.S. Navy developed the Admiralties into a massive forward base — at its peak one of the largest naval installations in the Pacific. Clubs operated on internal scrip specifically to prevent military payment certificates from cycling back into the local economy and to control alcohol purchasing, a persistent administrative headache in forward areas.
The chit system was self-contained and intentionally non-redeemable outside the issuing club, which means surviving examples were almost never in general circulation — they were pocketed as souvenirs when the base wound down in 1945.
