| Obverse description | Central device features a stylized lotus flower in full bloom, depicted in high relief with layered petals and surrounding foliage. The state name 滿洲國 (Manchukuo) is inscribed in Chinese characters along the upper arc of the legend, flanked on each side by a six-pointed star. The regnal date 大同三年 (Year 3 of Datong) is inscribed along the lower arc. The entire design is framed by a continuous geometric border of square fret pattern running along the rim. |

Manchukuo was a Japanese puppet state installed in 1932, and its Central Bank was established not to serve a Manchurian economy but to facilitate Japanese extraction of the region's industrial and agricultural resources. Puyi, the last Qing emperor, was installed as chief executive — later "emperor" — lending a fiction of dynastic legitimacy to what was effectively a colonial financial apparatus. The Datong era lasted only two years before it was renamed Kangde in 1934, making coins bearing that reign title a short production window.
