The chervonets (червонец) was historically a gold coin of ten rubles, issued under the tsars and later revived by the Soviet government in 1923 as a hard-currency stabilization tool during the NEP period. This piece is a modern Russian Federation restrike or commemorative issue, gold-plated rather than solid gold — a distinction that places it firmly outside the bullion or numismatic investment category.
Nicholas I reigned from 1825 to 1855, a period bookended by the Decembrist revolt and the Crimean War.
