| 备注 |
The Banco Central de Reserva de Arequipa is not a nationally chartered institution — it is a regional project, one of several proposals that emerged from Arequipa's long-running political tension with Lima. The "Characato de Oro" denomination name itself is a pointed localism: a characato is a colloquial term for a native Arequipeño, drawn from the Quechua word for a type of frog found in the region's agricultural valleys. Naming the unit of account after it was a deliberate assertion of regional identity over national monetary authority.
Whether this note ever achieved legal tender status or saw any documented circulation is unclear from available records.
