Opmerkingen

The East Hupeh Worker's and Farmer's Bank was one of several soviet-area financial institutions established by the Chinese Communist Party during its early years of territorial control in central China. Hupeh (Hubei) province was a contested zone throughout the early 1930s, with Nationalist encirclement campaigns actively attempting to strangle Communist-held soviets economically as well as militarily. Notes like this one were instruments of local economic administration as much as anything else — circulating within a defined and embattled territory, not beyond it.

Survival rate is low. Most soviet-era paper from this region was destroyed during Nationalist advances or lost during the Long March displacement that began in 1934.
