Informazioni aggiuntive	Haiti's 1816 coinage program came during the fractured years when the island was split between Henri Christophe's Kingdom in the north and Alexandre Pétion's Republic in the west and south. This piece is an essai — a trial strike — associated with the Western Republic under Pétion, who died in March 1816, leaving Jean-Pierre Boyer to inherit the republic and ultimately reunify the island by 1820. Whether this trial was produced under Pétion's final months or Boyer's early administration is not firmly established in the literature. KM#Pn27 is among a small cluster of trial pieces from this period that never advanced to circulation strikes.
