Obverse description At center, the crowned arms of Monaco — a shield bearing the Grimaldi lozenge pattern of argent and gules — surmounted by a princely crown. The circular legend PRINCIPAUTE DE MONACO runs along the outer border in raised Latin lettering, with the design set against a deeply mirrored proof-like field.

Reverse description A large numeral '1' occupies the left field, paired with a stylized 'Cme' (centime abbreviation) to its right, with an upright olive branch centrally overlapping both elements and bearing leaves and berries along its stem. The word ESSAI appears in small letters in the upper right field, the date 1976 is inscribed in the lower portion, and the mint mark 'S' (for the Pessac mint) appears below the date. The design is engraved in clean, modernist style against a polished field.
