| Beschrijving keerzijde | The center of the reverse features the mint mark 'A' (Paris) within a pearled grenetis, surrounded by the essai (pattern) inscription arranged in the field. The legend identifies the denomination and the Republican calendar date, reading PIÉCE DESSAI UN CENTIME L'AN 6, with the Paris mint letter 'A' at the base. The plain field and restrained design reflect the experimental nature of this essai strike intended for official evaluation. |

Augustin Dupré submitted pattern designs in the late 1790s as the Directoire government attempted to rationalize a decimal coinage system following the monetary chaos of the Revolutionary assignat collapse. This piece predates the formal adoption of the Napoleonic franc system by several years and was never approved for circulation — Dupré's designs competed against several rival submissions before the final decimal coinage was settled under the Consulate.
