| Additional information |
Barre's 1847 pattern series was produced in the final months of the July Monarchy, a regime already fatally weakened by the campaign banquets movement agitating for electoral reform. Louis-Philippe abdicated in February 1848, meaning this design never reached circulation — replaced not by a revised royal coinage but by the entirely new republican series that followed the revolution. The "à la charte" type references the Constitutional Charter that had defined the July Monarchy's legitimacy since 1830.
At 1.08 g, this is notably lighter than the circulating centime it was intended to replace.
