背面描述 The central device consists of a large numeral 1 set upon a finely engine-turned, horizontally lined background within a raised circular frame. The denomination CENTESIMO is inscribed on a curved ribbon or label above the numeral, within the circle. Surrounding the central medallion is a wreath of laurel branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow, rendered in precise detail. The engraver's signature TASSET appears in small capitals at the lower right of the field, with the mint mark A at the lower centre, just above the ribbon knot. A beaded border encircles the entire design.

附加信息

Uruguay's 1869 coinage reform was driven by the need to replace the chaotic mixture of foreign and provincial currencies still circulating decades after independence. Pattern issues from this period were struck in multiple metals to test designs and present options to the monetary commission — a gold striking of a base-denomination centesimo is precisely the kind of presentation piece produced for official approval rather than circulation. The disconnect between the metal and the denomination is deliberate: gold proofs of minor coins allowed legislators and treasury officials to evaluate design quality under optimal conditions.
