Uruguay's 1970s aluminum centésimo issues were produced during a period when the peso's purchasing power had collapsed so badly that the centésimo — one hundredth of a peso — was functionally worthless before it left the mint. The 1977 date falls squarely within military dictatorship rule, the junta having seized power in 1973 after dissolving parliament.
KM#71 is a short-lived type, discontinued as rampant inflation rendered the denomination obsolete within a few years of issue.
