| Reverse description | The large numeral '1' dominates the central field, flanked on either side by a single outward-pointing olive or wheat branch rendered in fine relief, the sprigs meeting symmetrically at the base of the numeral. The denomination CENTESIMO is inscribed in capital letters along the lower arc of the coin. The plain dodecagonal border frames the composition, leaving the upper field open. |

| Additional information |
Uruguay's 1970s aluminum centésimo issues were produced during a period when the peso's purchasing power had collapsed so badly that the centésimo — one hundredth of a peso — was functionally worthless before it left the mint. The 1977 date falls squarely within military dictatorship rule, the junta having seized power in 1973 after dissolving parliament.
KM#71 is a short-lived type, discontinued as rampant inflation rendered the denomination obsolete within a few years of issue.
