Obverse description	Central device depicts the Sun of May, rendered as a radiant solar disk with an anthropomorphic face at centre, surrounded by alternating straight and wavy rays emanating outward to fill the field. The circular legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by a beaded border. The date 1869 appears in the lower exergual area, separated on either side by a small five-pointed star. The overall design is executed in bold, deeply struck relief characteristic of the Paris Mint's work of this period.
