Additional information

The State of Oaxaca issued its own provisional coinage in 1915 after breaking from the Carranza government and declaring itself a sovereign state under General Isaac Rojas and the Soberanía movement. With federal supply lines severed and Constitutionalist currency distrusted in the region, local authorities struck copper centavos to keep commerce moving in the Sierra Juárez and the Central Valleys. These pieces were not federally recognized and circulated almost entirely within Oaxacan territory.

Production was irregular, and the copper stock used was inconsistently sourced, accounting for the planchet variation commonly observed across surviving examples.
