| 表面の説明 | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Nicaragua at centre, depicting a triangular shield bearing a landscape of five volcanic peaks rising from the sea beneath a radiant sun, surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap. The shield is flanked on each side by two crossed lances and two crossed flags, their staffs converging at the base and tied with a ribbon. A wreath of laurel and oak branches frames the lower portion of the central device. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA arcs around the upper periphery, while the date 1878 appears in the lower field beneath the shield. The coin exhibits a fine milled border and displays attractive original copper toning. |

Nicaragua's 1878 coinage patterns were produced as the young republic worked to establish an independent national currency — a project complicated by the continued circulation of foreign silver and the absence of a domestic mint. This copper centavo pattern, catalogued under KM#Pn2, was almost certainly struck abroad, most likely in a European or American commercial mint contracted for the purpose, as Nicaragua lacked domestic striking capacity at the time.
Patterns from this episode never advanced to circulation issue.
