| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central device consists of a decorative cross-like ornament formed by four interlocking crescents, with the legend LAZARETO across the center and the date 1921 in the lower field. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA runs along the rim. This special coinage was issued for use in Colombian government leper colonies (lazaretos), with patients permitted to exchange the tokens for regular currency upon the closure of the hospitals in the late 1950s. |
