Piedforts of this era were rarely struck for circulation — they were produced as presentation pieces, typically for government officials, mint dignitaries, or international exhibition displays. Nicaragua's 1892 coinage program coincided with efforts to modernize the national monetary system following decades of political instability, and the aluminium composition here is telling: by the early 1890s, aluminium was still a prestige metal, expensive to refine and associated with technological novelty rather than everyday coinage.
KM#P3 is among the earliest documented piedforts from Central American issues, and surviving examples are exceedingly rare by any accounting.
