Obverse description The national coat of arms of Guatemala is depicted at center within an inner heptagonal frame. The arms feature a resplendent quetzal bird, crossed rifles and swords, a laurel wreath, and a scroll. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by LIBERTAD 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1821, with the date of issue appearing at the bottom of the design.
