Nicaragua's 1 centavo of 1991 is a curiosity of monetary collapse arithmetic. By the time it was issued, the centavo was so thoroughly meaningless in purchasing terms that the note existed essentially as a rounding artifact — Nicaragua had just redenominated in 1990, introducing the "oro" córdoba at a rate of 1 to 5,000,000 of the old currency. Even within that new system, a single centavo bought nothing.
Harrison & Sons printed the series; their High Wycombe facility handled a considerable volume of Latin American small-denomination emergency paper in this period.
