| 正面描述 | Central field displays the Guatemalan national coat of arms, featuring the Resplendent Quetzal perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence date LIBERTAD 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1821, flanked by crossed rifles and swords and framed by laurel branches. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA runs along the upper periphery, while the date of issue appears in the lower exergue. The design is rendered in crisp relief against a flat field, consistent with standard circulation striking. |

Guatemala's centavo coinage of this period was produced under the watch of the Banco de Guatemala, established in 1946 to replace the earlier currency board system. The brass composition adopted for this denomination in the mid-1960s reflected a broader Latin American shift away from bronze as copper prices climbed on international markets. Several regional mints competed for the contract during these years, with production ultimately handled in Philadelphia.
