Lithuania's 1925 coinage program was the young republic's first fully independent domestic issue, struck at the Berlin Mint following the establishment of the litas monetary system in 1922. Trial pieces like this one were produced to test die alignment, metal flow, and alloy behavior before full production runs were authorized — making them working documents of the minting process rather than presentation pieces. The aluminium bronze formula required careful calibration for a denomination this small.
KM#TS1 is one of the rarest entries in Lithuanian numismatics. Survivors outside institutional collections are genuinely scarce.
