Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair arranged in waves and gathered in a chignon at the nape with a ribbon bow, engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon. The legend VICTORIA to the left and QUEEN to the right arc along the periphery in Latin script. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and drapery, characteristic of the young head effigy type used in the early Victorian coinage series. A toothed border frames the design.
