Ceylon's copper coinage of this period was struck almost entirely at the Royal Mint in London and the Heaton Mint in Birmingham, with H-mintmarked pieces from Heaton appearing sporadically across the series when London's capacity was stretched. The division of contracts between the two facilities means date-and-mintmark combinations vary in relative scarcity far more than the long reign span suggests.
The 1891 issue is notably thin in surviving circulated examples — consistent with the heavy commercial activity through Colombo during that decade's expansion of the plantation economy.
