Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair elaborately styled with a wreath of laurel leaves and tied in a chignon, engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon after a model by William Wyon. The effigy is set within a beaded inner border, with the circular legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA arching above and CANADA inscribed below. The portrait is rendered in fine Victorian neoclassical style, with careful attention to the Queen's facial features and hair detail. The flat field surrounding the bust is unadorned, allowing the effigy to dominate the obverse design.
