Cyprus joined the EMS exchange rate mechanism in 1992, but the groundwork for monetary stabilization was already being laid a decade earlier — this 1983 issue belongs to a reformulated small-denomination series introduced as the island's economy adjusted to the realities of a partitioned country following the 1974 Turkish invasion.
