备注

Boys Markets was a Southern California supermarket chain best known for a 1970 U.S. Supreme Court ruling — Boys Markets, Inc. v. Retail Clerks Union, Local 770 — that significantly curtailed labor's right to strike in violation of no-strike clauses. The chain issued scrip like this cent note as a promotional or change-making tool, a practice common among large regional grocers before coin shortages and consumer skepticism made the format impractical.

Private merchant scrip from California grocers of this period rarely survived in quantity — most were redeemed quickly or discarded.
