Opmerkingen

A merchant due bill or trade token note — these small-denomination paper scrip pieces were issued by independent grocers and liquor stores throughout Chicago's South Side neighborhoods, primarily during periods when coin shortages made exact change genuinely difficult to provide. Southeast Food & Liquor operated in a retail environment where thin margins and cash-only transactions made fractional scrip a practical workaround rather than a financial instrument in any formal sense.

No issuing date is recorded, and these pieces were almost certainly never intended to outlast the business itself.
