Obverse description The obverse bears the national coat of arms of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas at center, depicting a quartered shield with a rising sun in the upper half and a sailing vessel — representing the Santa Maria — in the lower half, supported by a marlin on the dexter side and a flamingo on the sinister side. Above the shield, a conch shell crest surmounts a royal helmet adorned with tropical foliage. Below the shield, a scroll bears the national motto in Latin characters in three parts: FORWARD, UPWARD, ONWARD, and TOGETHER. The circumferential legend COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS runs along the upper periphery, and the date appears in the lower field.

Reverse description The reverse features three starfish (Oreaster reticulatus, the cushion sea star) of varying sizes arranged dynamically across the field, with a large, finely detailed specimen occupying the center and lower portion of the coin, its textured surface rendered with granular relief. Two smaller starfish are positioned in the upper left and upper right of the field, adding compositional balance. The denomination 1 CENT appears in bold raised lettering in the upper portion of the field, to the left of center.
