Opmerkingen

Company scrip of this type — issued by food processors and meatpacking-adjacent firms in the Chicago area — was common enough in the early-to-mid twentieth century as a way to lock wages back into company-controlled purchasing. A 1-cent denomination is unusually small, suggesting this piece functioned as change within a company store or cafeteria system rather than as a wage token proper.

Select Foods, Chicago has left almost no trace in surviving business records, which makes precise dating difficult. Without a series date or charter number, attribution relies entirely on the issuer text.
