Obverse description Allegorical seated figure of the French Republic rendered in the Art Nouveau style, surrounded by the denomination '1 CENT' and the legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' arching around the periphery. The central hole is incorporated into the design composition. The mint mark 'A' appears in the exergue below the central perforation, denoting the Paris Mint. The design is attributed to engraver Jean-Baptiste-Daniel Dupuis and is executed with fine detail within a beaded inner border.
