Obverse description Two allegorical figures rendered in high relief dominate the field around a central round hole: a helmeted female personification of the French Republic, seated at left and holding a lance, faces a kneeling indigenous figure at right. The denomination '1 CENT' appears on a scroll at the base, while the legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' arcs along the left and right periphery. A beaded border frames the entire design, and the engraver's signature 'DANIEL-DUPUIS' is incuse near the lower right rim.
