Obverse description Seated allegorical figure of Marianne, radiate-crowned and draped, facing left within a raised inner circle bordered by a beaded ring. She holds a fasces surmounted by a spear-tip upright in her raised left hand, while her right hand rests on an anchor at her side; sheaves of grain are visible to her left in the field. The mint letter 'A' and engraver's initials 'A.B' appear in the exergue below the figure. The surrounding legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE' arcs along the upper periphery, with the date '1888' prominently displayed at the bottom, all within an outer beaded border.
