| Obverse description | Draped bust of Liberty facing left, her hair bound with a ribbon adorned with seven stars, with flowing locks falling to the neck, engraved in high relief by Robert Lovett Jr. The circular legend 'CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA' arcs around the periphery, with the date '1861' positioned in the lower exergue. The design closely echoes the contemporary U.S. cent Liberty head motif, adapted for Confederate use. A beaded border frames the entire composition. |
