Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Abraham Lincoln, modeled after a portrait by Victor David Brenner, occupies the center of the obverse field. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST curves along the upper periphery, while the legend LIBERTY appears to the left of the bust in the mid-field. The date and mintmark are positioned to the right of the bust in the lower field, with the designer's initials VDB incused on Lincoln's shoulder truncation.

Reverse description A bold heraldic shield dominates the reverse field, its chief bearing the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on a horizontal band. A decorative scroll unfurls across the lower portion of the shield, inscribed with the denomination ONE CENT. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper periphery. The designers' initials LB (Lyndall Bass) and JFM (Joseph Menna) appear in the lower field to either side of the shield's base.
