| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Abraham Lincoln rendered in high relief, depicting him as a mature statesman with characteristic beard and bow tie, based on the classic portrait design by Victor David Brenner first introduced in 1909. The legend IN GOD WE TRUST arcs along the upper periphery, while the word LIBERTY appears in the left field and the date 2009 is positioned in the lower right field with the Denver mint mark D below. The designer's initials VDB appear incuse on Lincoln's shoulder truncation. The overall style is naturalistic and portrait-like, maintaining the iconic imagery established for the Lincoln cent centennial series. |
